Desmond L Bannon & Sons are now one of the only independent family funeral directors left in Liverpool, other such family firms have sold out to multi national company's losing their local identity and knowledge.

“Bannon's” is owned and run by the Bannon family, Andrew, Laurence, Avril, Michael, and Sarah Bannon are our family here for your family. Andrew and Laurence strive daily to uphold their father's esteemed legacy, a personal touch that distinguishes us from our competitors.

We offer a full quality range of funerals from the most elaborate of arrangements to the simplest, all taken care of with the utmost respect and dignity under the care of the Bannon family. We currently have offices and chapels of rest at 6 locations throughout the city.

A century in Liverpool, in the family

  1. 1920Established in 1920 on Smithdown Road in Culshaws.
  2. 1980A funeral home on Broad Green Road since 1980, originally at 46 Broad Green Road, the family home of Des where his mother and father lived.
  3. 1997Des passes away in 1997; his sons Andy and Lol carry on the business.
  4. 1999Andy and Lol move the business to the White House, over the road, in 1999.
  5. 2004A Gateacre Village office opens, in a former Post Office.
  6. 2016The Kirkby funeral home opens at Elwy Lodge.
  7. 2019The Eldonian Village office opens at John Rotheram House.

We have had a funeral home on Broad Green Road since 1980. After Des passed away in 1997 Andy and Lol moved the operation of the business to the White House over the road from 46 Broad Green Road in 1999. We are very proud of the building and have welcomed thousands of families through our door into our home.

  • The Royal

    Panel sides and raised lid

    A coffin that is a cut above the traditional options.

    Our services include

    • Removal of deceased into our care
    • A hearse only (option to include a 7 seater limousine)
    • A high quality wood veneer coffin in a light oak colour or choice of several stains
    • Church or crematorium service
    • No restrictions on chapel visitation
    • Full hygienic treatment
    • Take home / into church
    • All our professional services
    • Third party fees (disbursements) to be added.

Direct Cremation

From £875.00

  • Collection of deceased into our care
  • Transportation and a very simple coffin
  • Option to view in chapel

Cremation times will be arranged at our discretion. Third party fees (disbursements) to be added. NO MOURNERS TO ATTEND.

Our unattended cremation is also offered from £1189.00, with all fees included. Unlike national providers, your loved one is cared for in Liverpool until the cremation, can be dressed in their own clothing, and can be visited in our chapel of rest beforehand.

We are all individual, and for some the traditional black hearse doesn't appeal to all. We have a vast array of hearses available for hire.

The Jaguar XJ is the epitome of luxury: our fleet of latest Jaguar XJ hearses and limousines, with 7 seater limousines and 4 seater executive saloons. We also offer a distinguished fleet of Rolls Royce hearses and limousines, uniquely available in Liverpool.

The White House

Our home, and the home of our chapels

The White House on Broad Green Road is our head office. Situated on Broad Green Road, we have great links all over the city as we are central to most areas. It has been a wonderful home to Andy and Lol, and thousands of families have come through its door.

Our offices are open Monday-Friday, with chapels of rest and family rooms. Evening Chapels until 6.00pm by prior arrangement only. Weekend Chapels strictly by appointment, times at our discretion and subject to availability (surcharge applicable).

I honestly don’t know where to begin. My dad passed away after a very short illness in April, and we chose Desmond Bannon’s as our funeral directors. Initially, it was because my dad loved camper vans and they offered such unique hearses - including “Ernie,” which we chose for Dad’s final journey. What was the most heartbreaking and difficult time for our family became a genuinely healing experience because of the incredible support we received from everyone at Bannon’s, especially Zoe. From start to finish, the care, compassion, guidance, and advice we were given were simply outstanding. Every detail was handled with such warmth and professionalism, and we always felt completely supported. They even went above and beyond by suggesting we involve Dad’s wagon in the service, and they did everything possible to make sure his flowers could be attached to it. We were absolutely blown away by that level of thoughtfulness and care.…

  • What can I say the kindest most professional caring team of people ever. I felt they looked after my Dad like he was a member of there own family the respect care and compassion was fantastic and the support to us as a family was amazing. We were also advised after the funeral not to hesitate to to contact and pop in for a chat and a cuppa so nice. Sadly some time later I lost my brother and having such a positive experience we didn’t hesitate to use Bannons to provide an exceptional service and they didn’t fail. Nothing was too much trouble everything was perfect at such sad times the team where well turned out the cars were immaculate I really couldn’t find fault in anything. Bannons you’re truly the best you really are earth angels and you’re worth your weight in gold. You’re not just in it for the money you’re in the profession because you have hearts you care and your u treated my loved ones with such care and dignity and I’m forever grateful.

Laurence Bannon was remarkable, always available to offer support either through a phone call or WhatsApp, ensuring we felt cared for during this most difficult time.
